Tru Thoughts is a record label set up in Brighton, on the south coast of England, in 1999. Acts such as Bonobo, Quantic, Alice Russell, Nostalgia 77 and TM Juke formed the backbone of their early roster. Still running from Brighton, but now with a sister office in LA, TT have since released over 120 albums and are still 100% independent.
Nostalgia 77, aka Ben Lamdin, first burst onto the scene with his heavy, new funk based sound in 2002. His hard work and prolific creation process has led to the release of many outstandingly high quality albums in a relatively short amount of time, containing a diverse and varied fusion of styles and influences from more mellow, solemn, moody yet beautiful offerings to more upbeat, heavy funk, hip-hop based beats mixed with dusty old jazz, obscuro funk and psych bits and pieces.
This driven sound spectrum of audio offerings led to the development into the full 2007 nu-jazz orchestrated release of ‘Everything Under The Sun’ in March 2007. This hard work ethic, gifted writing talent and dedication to his music contributed towards Ben winning the ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ award at the ‘Gilles Peterson BBC Worldwide Awards’ in 2006.
The BRIEF: Interview Nostalgia 77 and create a short documentary telling the story of his career in music. Archive footage provided by Tru Thoughts was made available for inclusion. The purpose of the video is to advertise Nostalgia 77's newest release, 'Fifteen (Best of)'.
Plaudits for Nostalgia 77;

“Creative flair, professionalism and a great understanding of our brand from the get-go. We will definitely use BigEye Media again." - Nigel Wells, Managing Director, RWD Creative Media.
The WHO:
Evolved from a successful youth marketing agency with its own media platforms (RWD magazine & RWDmag.com), RWD Creative Media is a staffing agency specialising in event curation and management, youth marketing and brand activation, all delivered with their unique London street-based edge.
The ‘team' itself is a collection of incredibly talented young people - breakdancers, skateboarders, models, celebrities, DJ's, MC’s, beatboxers, presenters, free-runners and dancers - who are hand-picked by RWD to help create a buzz at sporting events, nightclubs, festivals, store openings and other marketing events.
RWD have a track-record of exceptionally good engagement with young urbanites and as a result have attracted blue-chip clients such as Nike, Adidas & JD Sports to name a few.
The BRIEF:
Create a 2:30 to 3:00min showreel from footage already shot by RWD and their partners showcasing the team’s talent and RWD’s track record of exceptional engagement with young people.
The video needed to be high energy, capturing the buzz and excitement that the RWD Street Team generate at their various events. It was also important to relay highly credible social proof through the celebrity engagement with young people and major brand placement (Adidas and JD Sports).
The HOW:
The music, already chosen by management staff at RWD, formed the foundation for this edit with the action and cuts following very closely along to the beat and the different sections of the track. Quick cuts were used throughout in order to achieve a high energy pace and reflect the music.
The opening and final shots bookend the video mirroring each other and creating a sense of narrative from an otherwise very random assortment of clips.
The RESULT:
Feedback from Nigel Wells, managing director at RWD, was very postive. The video now sits at the top of RWD Street Team’s landing page.

“I didn’t think I had much content but William has made something really special out of footage that was destined for a lonely life on a hard drive. Now I’ve got this amazing film to help advertise my trips. Amazing work.” - Luke Denny, Director, KitesurfKings
The WHO:
KitesurfKings is a kitesurfing school in Worthing, West Sussex who coordinate trips to Zanzibar twice a year.
The BRIEF:
Create a 2 to 3 minute video using GoPro and associated footage already shot by Luke Denny, Director at KitesurfKings, and fellow kiters during their last trip to Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The purpose of the video is to showcase Tanzania and its exceptional kite-boarding conditions and in doing so entice kite-boarders to sign-up for KitesurfKings' next planned trip.
Luke was keen for the video to capture the buzz and excitement that his last batch of customers enjoyed, noting in particular that he wanted to somehow capture not just the action out on the water, but also the feel-good factor and sense of camaraderie that the group experienced immediately after a great session on on the waves.
Luke Denny, founder and owner at KitesurfKings, reached out to BigEye via our sister site 'Go Pimp My Pro', an editing service born out of our love of GoPro cameras. More information about Go Pimp My Pro can be found here.
The HOW:
It was clear early on that music would form the foundation of this particular edit and having reviewed the footage I immediately thought of an instrumental piece that I wrote and recorded a few years ago that had always conjured up images of ocean waves. I’d even named it ‘Shoreline Desperado’.
Essentially a music video, the action and the cuts follow very closely along to the beat and align with the rising and falling sections of the song.
Luke is a seasoned GoPro user and had managed to capture shots taken from a variety of positions - including high up in the kite itself - so I wanted to make sure each and every type of action shot featured in the final cut.
A montage of high-fives in time with music seemed to capture the ‘afterglow’ that Luke had talked about wanting to convey. The film was colour-corrected carefully and some effects were added before the final render to give it an enticing sheen.
The RESULT:
Described by one kiter as 'kitesurfing eye-candy’, this video has now been viewed over 2.6K times on Facebook.
Our client, Luke, said he was 'blown away' when he first viewed a draft. The video has been shared across all of KitesurfKings' social media platforms.

"The guys from BigEye were a pleasure to work with. Their professionalism and attention to detail were extremely impressive and I am really looking forward to working with them again in the future." - Peter Ross, CEO Umu Music
The BRIEF:
Umu Music is a record label based in London who also specialise in delivering live events and artist management. Umu have worked with Dr Bryan May, Mark Knopfler, Rick Wakeman and Russ Ballard to name a few.
Russ Ballard is a musician and songwriter who has penned many classics over the years including ‘Since You Been Gone’, ‘God Gave Rock n Roll to You’ and 'I Don’t Believe in Miracles'. He is now working with Umu Music and has released new material via their website.
In 2016 Umu hosted 'An Evening with Russ Ballard' at the Leicester Square Theatre in London in 2016. Hosted by Mike Read, the event is a journey through Russ' life in music with Russ telling stories of his time in various bands and as a solo artist and his huge success as a songwriter.
During the show Russ plays live solo performances of many of his songs, and for the finale he is joined onstage by his friends Dr Bryan May, Rick Wakeman, Bob Henrit and Kerri Ellis.
BigEye were asked to film the event and to create a teaser and trailer in order to build interest in the full-length version.
How we did it:
We had a four man crew operating three Sony NX5E cameras which were used outside the venue to capture the atmosphere leading up the event and then positioned carefully inside the auditorium during the event itself.
Aside from the action taking place on stage we captured lots of B-roll of the venue itself and conducted ad hoc interviews with audience members which included many people from the music industry, both before and after the show.
For the edit, we made use of additional imagery and music videos in order to give context to some of the characters, bands and songs that were mentioned during Russ' interview.
A couple of short-form 'teasers' were made from the footage designed to be shared across social media platforms to build interest in the feature-length version.
The RESULT:
The full-length version is completed but as yet unreleased while Umu Music negotiate with the publishes around the terms of its release.
This is BigEye Media's first and only feature-length film. We have since covered other live music events, fully understanding the pitfalls and consider these kind of projects one of our specialities.

Artist, Louise Dear joined forces with Dockerills and Donatellos of Brighton order to deliver two of the 42 Snowdogs ('Crush-Puppy' & 'Dudley Dockerill') that were decorated by local artists and set-free all across Brighton & Hove during Marlet's Hospice Snowdogs project. Louise asked us to document the process.
As well as our regular Panasonic GH4, GoPro cameras were used to capture some of the creation process shot from high up in Louise's studio and played back as a time-lapse.

The WHO:
'Street Velodrome' is a one-of-a-kind cycle race event taking place on a touring, pop-up velodrome. Professional riders compete for a National Title and amateur racing is open to anyone who turns up on the day.
The Street Velodrome Company has grown exponentially in the last few years as it continues to attract funding from major sponsors such as Viking & DeNovo Bikes, and with the model being franchised overseas (the US recently confirmed).
They also have their own TV series on BT Sport and BIKE Channel.
In their words;
“We make a touchpoint between grassroots and pro-riders. Mountain biker Jess Stone teaches kids and then they come back and watch her race. It’s about creating exciting moments which inspire for the future.”
The BRIEF:
Create a two minute video covering Street Velodrome’s launch event at the London Bike Show.
Capture the energy, excitement and fun and friendly atmosphere of the event; the wide range of ages of those taking part; engagement between the participants and pro-riders including Shanaze Reade from Team GB (the guest pro-rider at this particular event) and wider engagement with the general public.
There also needed to be emphasis on the Avocet brand with product placement for their Viking and De Novo bike brands.
The HOW:
At the forefront of our mind during this project was Street Velodrome’s mission to create 'exciting moments which inspire for the future’, and this concept heavily informed the choice of shots and music that were used in the final edit.
An interview with Team GB’s Shanaze Reade and the breaking up of the event into different age classes gives the film a structural basis.
Slow-motion and time-lapses were used to help create drama, with the use of GoPro cameras helping to place the viewer inside the action.
The RESULT:
The video was delivered to Carl Thompson, Director at Street Velodrome, within a few days of the event who described the result as ‘perfect’, and was used by both Avocet and Street Velodrome as digital content via their social channels.
The Facebook upload has been viewed over 11K times at the time of writing.

This area of the site is still in construction as we put together some edited versions of the weddings films we have made.
We can share a few clips and stills from a wedding video recently produced however along with this review from the happy couple...
"5 STARS! ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! Our wedding video is a lovely memento of our day and it was so nice to have a video so we can look back and see things we missed on the day that we were just too busy to fully take in.
The extra effort made by BigEye Media has set our wedding video apart from all others.
The editing is so smooth, the personal interviews with close friends and family, the footage of both Bride and Groom getting ready at different locations, the inclusion of our favourite songs over the video really make you realise it’s 100% personalised in all aspects.
They even found a clip of me singing along to a song and played that song over the video so my miming and the words matched perfectly.
I love all the exterior shots of the venues... it's a video that you could show to someone who didn't even go and they would still feel like they experienced it all.
William really went above and beyond to get us the best footage of our day by doing lots of things others don't and has made himself very unique as a wedding videographer, totally set apart from the rest.
I think you would really struggle to find someone who will put more effort and thought in to your wedding video than William from BigEye Media – Thank you so much."
